Swipe (2025)

Swipe is a comedy about three roommates talking about their dating experiences surrounded by the apps: Tinder, Hinge, Grindr, Raya, HUD - you name it. When they realize their one roommate, Alex, doesn’t hide her shallow opinions when it comes to scrolling through profiles, they plan an intervention and swipe with her until they find the “perfect guy” … or whatever that means in Gen Z terms.

One of my favorite parts of shooting Swipe was figuring out how to give each of the dating profiles their own personality when they stepped into the real world. Most of them only appear on screen briefly, so I wanted the audience to get an immediate sense of who they were through the camera, whether that meant a particular lens choice, forced framing, or camera movement. Since we were working in a relatively small location, we kept the camera and lighting package light and flexible, which forced us to be creative with every setup. Looking back, that's what I enjoyed most about the project: finding small visual ways to support the comedy and make each character feel memorable, even if they were only on screen for a few moments.
